The Chair for Sustainability and Transitions Research examines transformations of socio-technical systems and how these can be designed to be sustainable. In doing so, work from academic and applied transformation research is linked.
The Chair contributes to the application and communication of transdisciplinary approaches in sustainability and transformation research at the faculty and develops the basis for permanent networking and cooperation between the faculty members and non-university, non-profit institutes for sustainability and transformation research, such as the Öko-Institut e.V. in Freiburg.
In addition to the connection between theory and practice of sustainability research in a transdisciplinary perspective, the Chair focuses on the transformation of the energy sector. The main question is which strategies and instruments can be used to shape long-term system transformations.
